OH THANK GOD!! I FINALLY GOT MY FINANCIAL AID!!! Yay! :))))) I'm so relieved, it isn't even funny! Oh MAN, this is the best news ever! I was down to about $90 as all the money I owned in the world. Yay! I can buy socks! And a 5-month overdue haircut! Maybe even get the ends dyed white again! Pay my bills! Pay my insurance! Pay for schoolbooks! Get the girls b-day presents! And other stuff!

In other, less psychotic news, it's the New Year, just about, and so, on also approximately my journal's 1-year anniversary, I'd like to do a little thingy of appreciation to the following people:

[livejournal.com profile] generaltootsie: Becca, you are a really cool, intelligent, and funny friend from Redlands who I miss. Although I'm too shy to comment, I wish you'd update your journal more often. Hope Minn. is going well for you. I regret not staying in touch with you.

[livejournal.com profile] grandmastababyk: I don't really know you, but your username is neat-o, and so are your fabulously non-sequitur posts. And you liked my quiz, which is a nice stroke to the ego! You're an intriguing person.

[livejournal.com profile] johannakatt: I seriously doubt you will ever read this, and that's ok. I added you because you are one of the most talented, creative people ever. I love your twisted faerietale-ish art, and your costume pictures! And you don't live in stupid America, you lucky lady.

[livejournal.com profile] loserx: I first came upon you when I was doing bombs of happiness comments in peoples' journals, and I'm glad we got friended. You have a way about you that's very unique, and you're honest about what you think of things. You aren't easy to categorize, and I appreciate that!

[livejournal.com profile] mommyofjazzy: I don't know you either, but if feels almost like I do, because you are so candid in your entries. I worry about you. Remember, you are a strong and valuable person. Your girl sounds quite sweet and cuddly, too. :)

[livejournal.com profile] poploser: I've never commented, but I think you're awesome. You like old films, and I do too, and you live in Alaska, and I wish I did too, and your journal is girly and pretty. And you work at the library, and I actually wish I did, too. And, I too think it's funny when someone yells "Freebird!" at a concert.

[livejournal.com profile] triumph_the_dog: What do I say?? It's Triumph the Dog, fer Chrissakes! You rule. I want you for my pet. You're funnier that Conan and you get no respect. And your comments are "___ poops/ leave a nugget", which is scarily hilarious.

[livejournal.com profile] yitzhak_groupie: I just met you, but I feel for you, because you are a Hedhead! You too like Miriam Shor and think she should be a rockstar, and also of course JCM. Although I can be clueless about some things Hedwig, you are helping me learn. Yay!

oh golly thank you! ;) I dig your journal too, but DON'T LIVE IN ALASKA!
It's terribly cold and dark, just come visit in the summer and see the hanging flower baskets, it's the way to go!

Bah, we got hanging flower baskets in Portland... But we don't have that groovy ice and snow and Northern lights. Do you have extremely long nights in the winter where you live? Northern climates are just so fascinating.
Although I guess I could see how the dark and cold could get old if you had to live with it day in and day out.

The Northern Lights are AMAZING! They were out in full effect last week and it was gorgeous. They were racing across the sky changing from green to a light pink. It was the best I've ever seen of them.
The cold doesn't bother me too much, but the nights are ungodly. I think at our shortest, the sun rises at 10:45 am and sets at 3:50. That's nothing compared to the more northern cities though. In Bethel, the sun doesn't even rise for three months out of the year (on the same token, it also doesn't set for three months either)
it would be a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't reccomend living here. The winters are killer.

I suppose every climate has its drawbacks- in Portland, it's the rain. Winter/Spring is one long, dim, monotonous drizzle. It gets to be rather claustrophobic.
You do see the Northern lights? Wow, that sounds marvelous. I'd like to some day make several long trips all over up there, visit Alaska and several areas in Canada. A large part of my extended family used to live in Canada- I was born just after they moved south. Darn.
