Wow, that's so cool of you! Yep, I got one! I'll be working at Kachemak Bay State Park (their website: http://www.dnr.state.ak.us/parks/units/kbay/kbay.htm (http://www.dnr.state.ak.us/parks/units/kbay/kbay.htm)). It's near Homer. That would be too neat to meet you and get a tour of Anchorage, but I don't think I'll be able to. The crew supervisor will be picking us up straight from the Anchorage airport on May 12th, and once I'm at KBay, I can't go anywhere but Homer. :( But really, who knows? I'll let you know if I'm able.

Oh that's awesome though! My friends and I were planning on going on a camping trip to Homer this summer! It's such a neat place. Maybe we'll meet up there! The beach is so cool.(and by beach I mean mud flats and ocean, but I really like the ocean)

You HAVE to be able to get into Anchorage. You'll kick yourself if you don't! It's a pretty neat place, and it has a lot of cool places to vist if you're new to Alaska. Downtown is gorgeous.

So whats Homer and the area like?

It's very...quaint. It's a pretty small town, and it has lots of little stores. I haven't been there for five years, but something tells me not a whole lot has changed. It's a white area, and by that I mean there's not a whole lot of native culture around there. I think the Russians inhabited it, it's an old city, much older than Anchorage. I doubt you'll be able to go here, but there is this crazy community of Russian orthodoxes that you can only get to by boat (I've never been there) and they marry their girls off at a very young age (about 16) to these old gross men. I bet you'll see them around town, it's like they stepped out of Dr Zhivago.
You HAVE to go down to the docks and walk around! The water is this beautiful deep greenish blue (I don't want to know WHY it is that color, but it's pretty none the less)
Oh, and when you are driving over there, sit on the right side of the car, that way you can see the whales and the Kenai river (which is bar none, the prettiest river in the world, the color is just absolutely gorgeous) but you will miss the dall sheep (they live on the cliffs that are above the highway) but it's worth it, just to see the Kenai.
Homer is actually one of my favorite places in AK, you're gonna love it! When do you start work?

oh, and I just want to warn you, June is mosquito season, and you've *never* seen mosquitos like the ones we have here, they're absolutely huge.

Thanks for the insider info on Homer. Ooh, Dr. Zhivago-esque Russian Orthodoxes! I can't wait! Not really looking forward to the mosquitoes though. I was told to bring not only bug repellent and the usual, but a mosquito head net, so I had an idea they might be... prevalent. Eek, oh well.

I'm leaving on May 10th! Less than three--oh my god. Less than three weeks! What am I doing, I've got to get ready!
