It's been a while since I've written here, huh? Yep! I guess I am a real live recluse. Seriously, I haven't spent hardly any time with hardly any friends for, like, a month. It's the strangest thing, it seems like time is just speeding up or something, because every night I'm thinking, What happened to the day? Where did my week go? And I have nothing done to show for it, not really.
Oh, and I've dropped my Math for Liberal Arts class. I feel terrible for it, but I'm quite certain that it will not transfer to Portland State. Speaking of PSU- I still have not sent them everything they need. I now have to get a high school transcript sent to them, and Jebus knows what all else. And I was 40 minutes late to Sight-sing class today. And I wanna be in a rock band.
Oh yes, I haven't really said much about San Francisco yet, huh? Yeah, I don't know, I'm not too enthusiastic about expounding on that thing. Although there was one particularly fun night when I stayed out in downtown Berkeley until 2:30 am hanging out with myself in order to avoid a party that was being thrown at the co-op I was staying at. Yeah, good old Aimee, *must* avoid Social Situations at *all* costs. So I wandered around Shattuck St. and saw Y Tu Mama Tambien (now this is a "teenage" roadtrip flick way better than American Pie) and Lord of the Rings (for the 3rd time, shucks...). And browsed various little shops.
And also I love San Francisco's public transportation system. I went exploring in downtown SF, where I ate crappy cheesburgers at a Burger King (seated two feet away from the lavatory, and that was fun), enjoyed conversation with many lovely crazies, "borrowed" a book from the **astounding** main city library, collected an impressive pile of free newsweeklies, etc etc fun things.
I visited SF State U., and was severely underimpressed. The campus and location are wonderful, but it doesn't fit for me. It's all about racial diversity, but it's not liberal enough. I want to walk amongst all the sorts of people, all sorts. And I know Portland, so... there we go. Too bad, because I love and adore SF! Man, as soon as I got on that BART off the airport shuttle and sat next to the guy with the rhinestone tattoos and flower-patch daisy dukes who was idly chattering with the guy in the top hat and irridescent salmon-colored polyester number, I knew that I had found a land of magic. If only more of the world could be like San Francisco... oh, what a world that would be.
And here I am, and here I have been back for more than a week, and yet I don't feel it. I wish time didn't hurry so...
Meet my new commitment: 9 o'clock sharp every Tuesday night, I am watching... SMALLVILLE. I love it. And I love Remy Zero. And I love Muse. Those are some things that I love.
Tomorrow morning, I will get up at 5 am (not pushing "snooze" even once!) and take a shower(that includes washing and fussing with 2 ft. of hair with residual perm in need of straightening), and then I will have time left over to write my chord progression, which is due @9:30 am. Ha. Ha! Ha ha HA HAHA! Delusional Aimee is pretty funny.
Last Saturday I went rock climbing at Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. I prefer idle bouldering, but I still had big boxes full of fun. Joshua Tree is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever had the priviledge to see. I so needed that trip- during lunch break, I took my food off with me exploring. After climbing up and over a ton of rock piles, I finally found a wonderful shaded ledge 30 feet off the ground to my liking, and I just sat there all comfortable with my bare feet hanging off the edge, listening to complete silence. I could see everywhere for miles and miles, but it felt like I was totally alone, and I finally was able to clear my brain of all that noise and clutter that has been banging around in there for months. I want to go back, now. I want to go back and stay for a long time, with just a sleeping bag, some water, bug spray, books, and junk food, and live under the sky and spend every day scrambling over mounds of boulders.
While en route to Joshua Tree, my climbing partner got us 150 miles lost, and the whole time, I was sitting in the car staring out the window and hoping we could stay lost for a while longer. At one point, we passed by acres and acres of windmills. It was astounding- they were spread out on both sides of us, and you could see them scattered on top of distant surrounding hills as well. We passed by cactuses and joshua trees and these weird tall, spindly plants that had spikey stems with bright red v-shaped flowers at the ends.
Once when I was wandering around Joshua Tree, a huge swarm of bees suddenly passed right over my head. That was frightening. My first thought was, "Oh no! The African killer bees really have spread North!" But they just passed right above without giving me the time of day.
My favourite songwriter in the world is Lou Reed. In case you don't know, he was in Velvet Underground and also wrote a few of the songs Nico did. I think that his songs are some of the most naturally soulful in existence.
"I'm Set Free"
I've been set free and I've been bound
To the memories of yesterday's clowns
I've been set free and I've been bound, and now
I'm set free, I'm set free
I'm set free to find a new illusion
I've been blinded but now I can see
What in the world has happened to me
The prince of stories who walks right by me, and now
I'm set free, I'm set free
I'm set free to find a new illusion
I've been set free and I've been bound
Let me tell you people what I've found
I saw my head laughing, rolling on the ground, and now
I'm set free, I'm set free
I'm set free to find a new illusion
